Secret History of Silicon Valley

[Recorded: November 20, 2008] Today, Silicon Valley is known around the world as a fount of technology innovation and development fueled by private venture capital and peopled by fabled entrepreneurs. But it wasn't always so. Unbeknownst to even seasoned inhabitants, today's Silicon Valley had its start in government secrecy and wartime urgency. In this lecture, renowned serial entrepreneur Steve Blank presents how the roots of Silicon Valley sprang not from the later development of the silicon semiconductor but instead from the earlier technology duel over the skies of Germany and secret efforts around (and over) the Soviet Union. World War II, the Cold War and one Stanford professor set the stage for the creation and explosive growth of entrepreneurship in Silicon Valley. The world was forever changed when the Defense Department, CIA and the National Security Agency acted like today's venture capitalists funding this first wave of entrepreneurship. Steve Blank shows how these groundbreaking early advances lead up to the high-octane, venture capital fueled Silicon Valley we know today.

Well what you can do is right click the icon of the program and look under the "general" tab. It tells you when it was created, last modified, and accessed. Hope this helps

Computer History – A British View – Part 1 of 3
A British film about computers from 1969. It is presented here as a historical look at how computers used to be in the 1960's when PC's and Macs were over 10 years away. Shown in three parts. Sorry, but the 16mm print is rather battered! To my surprise this clip was featured in 'The Guardian' newspaper's Technology supplement on Thursday December 6th 2007.

Here's a bit of computer history and humor with one of Compaq Computer's ads. Compaq was trying to show its computer was compatible with IBM's personal computer. The ad showcases John Cleese comparing the Compaq Computer with a dead fish. See if you get the connection... and the dry humor.

Clean your history in Control Panel > Internet options
If you want to secure your files, you can encrypt it with software like WinRAR or Winzip. It should be easy to password protect your folders.
The best though is to take your files from the computer. Just burn it into a CD or DVD and delete whats on there. Its tedious i know but thats the best. And when you get your computer back, put your files back on, and now at least you have a working bakcup!
If you still cant do any of those, then just watch him repair your computer.
I used to be a computer tech, and had a lot of high profile clients. Frankly, we dont care whats on your computer. I know some tech's search the computer for music files or some "Interesting Video Clips" (if you know what i mean) but thats it. We wont bother with confidential docs, its just boring.

Computer History
A brief history of the computer I did for class. This is in no way accurate by any means. The assignment was to make a brief presentation on the history of something you cannot live without. I went to school for Graphic and Packaging design, not computer technology or anything of the like. The assignment was suppose to help your presentation skills. My professor enjoyed it, and asked if I could upload it to youtube. Music by Daft Punk.
